Four sharpeners each from different states certified as a Bonika Shears technician through the Kuda Workshop. Congratulations to these four sharpeners: Lenny Dicarro, Fred Reppart, Mark Peterson, and Roland Kappelman. Each correctly sharpened a Bonika Jazzy and explained how they would sharpen a Fishbone, Texturizer, Thinning Shear, Curve Shear, Beveled Shear and a Serrated Shear. They are are eligible to be listed on our Find A Sharpener look-up if they are distributing Bonika Shears.

Vendors at the Kuda workshop included Nina Inc, Shark Fin, Sukotta, Nebraska Blades and Kuda. Click Here to see photos from the Kuda Workshop in Florida.

  1. There has been negative comments made about this workshop and about the vendors. This was a small workshop, I see that as an advantage to sharpeners. The certification was much more strict than the old SMART certification. Many of the most successful and profitable sharpeners understand we are not about bending and hitting scissors. When asked which of the Bonika Shears can be bent and which ones can not, I said we do not recommend any be bend. A scissor made by us that is out of alignment is covered under out life time warranty and sharpeners should not risk bending them and possibly breaking the shear.

I did feel that the Saturday presentations were more sales presentations by the vendors. If a sharpener is there to decide on what shears they want to carry to sell, this is important information. The Kuda Workshop does not have the same format as the other workshops but I thought it was effective. My brother-in-law was there and paid full amount to attend and he felt he received a benefit from going and learned more than he knew before. When you hear negative comments always remember the source and look at their possible motivations.
