Derek Jae's Hair Battle Spectacular (High Quality Trailer)

We loved watching Derek J on Oxygen channel's Hair Battle Spectacular last week. Don't miss him, he comes on tonight again.

Derek is one of the "Bonika Family." You have seen him many times on my blog here and using our Bonika Fishbone shears in the movie "Good Hair" with Chris Rock. Derek began his career several years ago when he puchased a Bonika ProMaster shear from us in Memphis, TN, then promptly won all three of the hair shows contests. Thank you Derek for your loyalty to us over the years and also for mentioning us in several of your interviews with national publications.

Birmingham Premiere Show

Just got back from the Premiere Show in Birmingham and am flying out tomorrow to a show in San Juan Puerto Rico. We had a blowout in our trailer on the way which was an aggravation but we dealt with it. Sales seemed to be down generally, but Frances Dubois of London hair said her sales were up and she sold a lot of Fishbone Shears and Shark Tooth Razors. Our best seller was the Bonika Baby which flew out of our booth when Danny LaPrade demonstrated it in class. That is one great little shear for slide cutting and texturizing.

Sharpening Workshop in Altamonte Springs, FL

Four sharpeners each from different states certified as a Bonika Shears technician through the Kuda Workshop. Congratulations to these four sharpeners: Lenny Dicarro, Fred Reppart, Mark Peterson, and Roland Kappelman. Each correctly sharpened a Bonika Jazzy and explained how they would sharpen a Fishbone, Texturizer, Thinning Shear, Curve Shear, Beveled Shear and a Serrated Shear. They are are eligible to be listed on our Find A Sharpener look-up if they are distributing Bonika Shears.

Las Vegas International Beauty Show

Here are some pictures from the show. Karen Showen sharpened for us and had people bring back additional shears after they tried out their shears. Nikita Smith cut my hair in class. She kept a room of 200+ enthralled for the full 90 minutes of class. Our best selling shears were the short curve, the Fishbone, our new T25 and T14. We are pretty tired and look forward to the flight home tomorrow. We miss our grandbabies. I will post the diagrams to Nikita's haircut on the website as soon as I get home. I sold a Twister Sister at the show to a gentleman from South Africa. Imagine his surprise when I told him we had a Bonika warranty center right there in his country and someone there who could sharpen them correctly. Unfortunately we couldn't say that to the lady from Guatemala. Maybe next year we will have a sharpener there. We plan to add a Spanish speaking country as a warranty center in October.

This was one of the loudest shows we have been in. The volume level was overwhelming. I think it affected our sales by 30%. We still did well enough we will be back next year.
